Ship bearing MOX sets sail from France for Japan
Cherbourg, France (AFP) April 8, 2010
A shipment of 15 tonnes of combustible MOX, a blend of plutonium and reprocessed uranium, left the French port of Cherbourg on Thursday for Japan, French nuclear group Areva said. The Pacific Heron, a ship specially outfitted to transport nuclear material, is due to arrive in Japan in June escorted by a sister ship, both of which are owned by British company PNTL. A company backed by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Toshiba are in early talks to jointly develop a small nuclear reactor, the Japanese electronics giant said Tuesday.
