Finland plans 'massive' renewable energy boost
Helsinki (AFP) April 20, 2010
Finland's government on Tuesday outlined a plan to massively boost renewable energy production to meet European Union requirements on slashing greenhouse gas emissions. "This addition of renewable energy is equivalent in scale to three big nuclear power plants," Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen said in comments broadcast by YLE. France and Italy on Friday agreed to cooperate more closely to increase nuclear power generation and vowed to come to the aid of debt-laden Greece in order to defend the euro. Ship bearing MOX sets sail from France for Japan
Cherbourg, France (AFP) April 8, 2010
A shipment of 15 tonnes of combustible MOX, a blend of plutonium and reprocessed uranium, left the French port of Cherbourg on Thursday for Japan, French nuclear group Areva said. Belgian police on Saturday detained hundreds of anti-nuclear activists protesting in and outside a military base where nuclear weapons are believed to be stored, rally organisers said.
