Framatome and Rosatom sign instrumentation and control support contract for Hanhikivi-1
by Staff Writers
Paris, France (SPX) Jan 18, 2021

The Hanhikivi-1 NPP located in Finland.

Framatome and Rusatom Automated Control Systems JSC (RASU JSC), a subsidiary of Rosatom State Corporation, signed a contract to provide technical support in design and integration of the instrumentation and control (I&C) system for the Hanhikivi-1 Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Finland.

Under the terms of the contract, Framatome will provide consulting support for I&C system integration and design in the NPP construction project based on VVER-1200 reactor. The role of RASU JSC is to review design documentation and to be I&C technical leader and integrator for Hanhikivi-1 NPP.

"We are delighted to provide our I&C expertise and partner with RASU JSC to support the construction of the Hanhikivi-1 Nuclear Power Plant," said Frederic Lelievre, senior executive vice president in charge of Sales, Regional Platforms and the I&C Business Unit at Framatome.

"This contract marks another highlight of Framatome's continuing collaboration with RASU JSC and demonstrates our unique capabilities to support Russian reactor designs in the field of I&C."

"Our partners from Framatome have extensive experience in nuclear technologies and innovations. The signed contract will help us to let our Finnish counterparts better understand how we comply with safety requirements of the plant owner and deliver I&C equipment within the established time frame," said Andrey Butko, CEO, RASU JSC.

Denis Simagin, I&C director of the plant supplier, Finnish company RAOS Project Oy (part of JSC REIN, a company of Rosatom State Corporation) noted: "The Hanhikivi-1 NPP project is now at the licensing stage.

"The main task at this stage is to prepare design and technical documentation for plant systems to support Preliminary Safety Analysis Report submission to the nuclear regulator of Finland for NPP safety assessment.

"The cooperation with Framatome will enable us to use the experience and know-how of our partners in I&C design and licensing in Finland and other European countries for the Hanhikivi-1 NPP project."

In October 2019, CONCERN TITAN-2 JSC signed a contract for the supply of the main I&C with a Framatome-Siemens consortium. The first priority task under this contract was to develop documentation necessary for the NPP licensing.

Hanhikivi-1 Nuclear Power Plant, located on the Hanhikivi Peninsula in the Finnish region of Northern Ostrobothnia, has one power unit featuring a Russian-designed VVER-1200 Generation III+ reactor.

Once operational, the plant will have the capacity to generate 1,200 megawatts of electricity. Licensing and preparatory works are currently underway. Finland's Fennovoima Oy is the owner and operator of the plant.
