In a significant development, Framatome, a prominent figure in the nuclear energy sector, has confirmed being chosen by a prominent U.S. nuclear plant for the manufacturing and delivery of incore instrumentations (ICIs). The recent selection makes it the third such campaign of Framatome ICIs since 2014 for the same power plant, which ranks among the largest power producers in the United States. The agreement additionally ensures a consistent supply of crucial instrumentation for the plant and aids in the management of costs associated with long-lead materials.

Framatome's ICIs, indispensable to the smooth functioning of the plant, are celebrated for their reliability and simplicity of design, negating the requirement for an external power supply. The ICIs are designed to provide round-the-clock monitoring and real-time online assessment of the plant's core safety measurements, thereby enhancing operational flexibility. This expanded capability elevates the comprehensive guidance available to plant operators and bolsters their ability to effectively handle transient conditions, identify and diagnose core anomalies.

Frederic Lelievre, senior executive vice president of Sales, Regional Platforms and Instrumentation and Control at Framatome, underscored the company's ongoing commitment to assisting U.S. utilities in safely prolonging their plant operations and meeting their carbon reduction objectives. "We are honored to be chosen to provide yet another campaign of ICIs at this plant and eager to continue delivering solutions that help our U.S. customers prepare for the clean energy future," he said.

The recent contract signifies Framatome's continued strategic role in the American nuclear energy landscape, especially in the backdrop of increasing focus on clean and sustainable energy. As a company, Framatome's contributions have become increasingly crucial as the industry strives for long-term, carbon-neutral energy solutions.

Framatome, bringing over six decades of experience in the global nuclear industry, manufactures its reliable and robust ICIs at its facility in Lynchburg, Virginia. This extensive experience, coupled with its strategic location in the U.S., positions Framatome as a critical partner for utilities that are looking to optimize their nuclear power plant operations and align their carbon reduction goals with broader clean energy targets.

Overall, Framatome's repeated selection by a leading U.S. nuclear power plant for its incore instrumentations signifies the trust and reliability it has garnered over the years. With its proven technology and strategic approach, Framatome looks set to continue playing a significant role in the future of clean, sustainable nuclear power in the U.S. and beyond.

New adsorbent can remove radioactive cesium ions from nuclear wastewater
Busan, South Korea (SPX) Jun 21, 2023
Nuclear power is typically considered a cleaner way of generating power compared to fossil fuels. It does not release air pollutants and greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide as by-products. However, it creates radiotoxic waste that needs proper treatment to prevent adverse environmental and health conditions. One of the major by-products of the nuclear fission process used for power generation is 137Cs (an isotope of cesium), a radioactive element that has a half-life of 30 years and is often remo ... read more
