Terms and costs of the construction of Jordan's first nuclear power plant are expected to be clear by the spring of 2017, the head of Russia's Rosatom nuclear corporation said Tuesday.

"A feasibility study and a project implementation plan will be finally understandable by the spring of 2017," Sergey Kirienko told reporters.

According to Kirienko, after preliminary work on the project is due to end in the spring of 2017, the government of Jordan will make its final decision on the project implementation, and its costs and terms will be fixed.

In March, Moscow and Amman signed an intergovernmental agreement on the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Jordan. According to the agreement, Rosatom corporation is set to build two 1,000-megawatt nuclear power units located in the country's north by 2022.

Shortly after the agreement was reached, chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission Khaled Toukan expressed hope that the raw materials for the first nuclear power plant would be produced from the country's uranium deposits discovered in 2007.

Under the agreement, Jordan and Russia will own 51 and 49 percent of the power station respectively.
