The UN atomic watchdog's board of governors elected Friday a new chairman as new controversy raged over Iran's disputed nuclear drive. The International Atomic Energy Agency's 35-emmber board voted for Malaysian envoy, Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob, by consensus as its new chairman at a special meeting here, diplomats who attended the closed-door session said. French energy groups Areva and EDF have reached an agreement on the treatment of nuclear waste following weeks of tensions, the companies announced Friday. "The two companies will sign a contract before the end of the first quarter of 2010," the said in a joint statement.
