S.Korea, Turkey sign deal on nuclear power plant
Istanbul (AFP) March 10, 2010
The state power companies of South Korea and Turkey signed a preliminary deal here Wednesday aimed at building a nuclear power plant in northern Turkey. Under the deal, the companies will carry out preliminary work and "if a common ground with mutually acceptable conditions emerges, the main agreement between the two governments will be signed", Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said. Today, the Vermont State Senate voted to retire the Vermont Yankee Nuclear plant, owned by the Louisiana based corporation Entergy. Despite Entergy's efforts to renew the license for the 40-year-old reactor, the Vermont Senate voted to shut down the nuclear plant as scheduled in 2012 with a final count of 26-4. U.S. scientists say they've created a material that mimics a Venus Flytrap, but instead of catching insects, it traps radioactive nuclear waste. Strikers block access to Areva facility: sources
Paris (AFP) Feb 25, 2010
Striking workers are blocking access to nuclear group Areva's principal French production site to press demands for a salary hike, union and company security sources said Thursday. "The site is still blocked," a member of the secuity team told AFP. Security officers have been the only personnel allowed to enter the site in Saint Marcel, in eastern France, since Wednesday night.
