Prime Minister Vladimir Putin moved Tuesday to intensify Russia's revival in ties with ex-Soviet Ukraine, offering an unprecedented nuclear cooperation deal and revealing the cost of gas price cuts. Putin wrapped up talks with Ukraine's leadership in the early hours of the morning after flying in for a night-time visit days after the two countries agreed a landmark deal to extend the lease on a key Russian base. Russia shuts down last plutonium reactor: officials

Russia on Thursday shut down its last weapons-grade plutonium reactor, in line with a pledge made at a nuclear security summit in Washington this week, officials said. Finland does not need three new nuclear plants to secure its future energy needs, the minister who is preparing a government proposal on the subject said in an interview published on Monday.
