German revives nuclear to green energy mix

The German government has agreed to extend the life of the country's nuclear power plants, a move that has the opposition and the renewable energy industry fuming. Germany's 17 reactors will remain online for an average of 12 years beyond their planned phase-out deadline in 2021 as a bridge technology until renewables are ready to take over completely, German Chancellor Angela Merkel revealed Monday. The Indian parliament adopted Wednesday a long-delayed law that will throw open the 150-billion-dollar Indian atomic energy market to foreign private nuclear groups. Egypt announces site of planned nuclear plant

Egypt announced on Wednesday it would build its planned nuclear powerplant on the Mediterranean coast of el-Dabaa which it hopes will start production in 2019, the state news agency MENA reported. Scientists studying wildlife in the Chernobyl region say DNA may be the key to which species are most likely to be damaged by radioactive contamination.
