German states challenge nuclear extension
Karlsruhe, Germany (UPI) Mar 1, 2011
Five German states led by opposition parties have gone to court to fight Chancellor Angela Merkel's decision to extend the lifetime of the country's nuclear power plants. Berlin, Bremen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Brandenburg and Rhineland Palatinate have filed a legal complaint with the country's highest court in Karlsruhe, challenging the German government's decision to extend the running times of the country's 17 nuclear reactors by an average of 12 years.
