Advancing the Debate Over Nuclear Waste Storage Locations

Plans for a nuclear waste repository in southern New Mexico were initially opposed in the late 1980s by a 2-1 margin but a new analysis of 35 statewide public opinion surveys taken over a decade shows that public acceptance steadily grew as Federal agencies went through the policy development and approval process over a 25-year-span.
