Japan Creates Scorpion-Robot to Explore Fukushima Reactor

As part of the ongoing effort to clean up Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant, Toshiba Inc. has co-developed a scorpion-like robot that officials hope can help determine the condition of melted fuel in the plant's Unit 2 reactor. The cylindrical 21 inch robot was designed by Toshiba in collaboration with the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID) and is set to enter the primary containment vessel (PVC) of the Unit 2 reactor in August.
