4JET Introduces New Laser Solution for Processing Flexible Solar Cells
by Staff Writers
Alsdorf, Germany (SPX) Sep 26, 2012

The new 4JET tool enables serial interconnects on flexible solar cells.

4JET Technologies GmbH (Alsdorf near Aachen) is launching a new laser scribing system for flexible solar cells during EUPVSEC in Hamburg.

The unique tool design enables the P1-P3 serial integration of flexible CIGS, a-Si- and organic thin-film solar cells on polymer- or metal substrates, thus allowing new approaches to the module design.

The monolithic integration allows true roll to roll processing and provides for advantages over connecting individual small cell shingles to a module.

The 4JET design is based on a patent pending foil- and beam delivery system that guarantees for a precise standoff distance between laser optics and foil.

At the same time, the tool allows full area processing of the entire foil surface with up to 10 parallel laser beams. The machine design is also suitable for processing other flexible materials such as printed electronics and battery foils.

Besides the tool 4JET is also supplying customized scribing processes which are developed using the in-house laser and analytics laboratory.

How silicon purity affects the performance of solar cells
Hangzhou, China (SPX) Sep 26, 2012
Most solar cells are made from crystalline silicon. Crystalline silicon is expensive because it has to be very pure to make efficient solar cells. Unfortunately, nobody knows exactly how pure and that is why manufacturers play it safe. In other words: they generally use too pure and therefore too expensive silicon. New data on the relation between solar cell performance and impurity content are ... read more
