BAE Systems to perform depot maintenance for USS Roosevelt

BAE Systems has received a $51 million contract to perform depot maintenance for the U.S. Navy's Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt.

In addition to maintenance operations, the contract includes modernization and repair services for the carrier.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, the work will be performed in Jacksonville, Fla., and is expected to be complete by April 2018.

The agreement includes options that can potentially raise the contract value to $68 million. BAE Systems received $32 million in funds at the time of the contract award. The Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.

USS Roosevelt has been in service with the Navy since the 1980s, and belongs to the branch's largest class of warships. The 10 Nimitz-class aircraft carriers have been designed for a 50-year service life, and are scheduled to be replaced by the new Gerald R. Ford class ordered in 2008.
