Britain's Defense Science and Technology Laboratory is starting a competition for new cyber techniques and methods for use to the military.

Of particular interest are ways to visualize data, user interfaces and automated techniques to analyze cyber information to improve military decision making.

"Processing information in cyberspace and making sense of a potential impact on operations is a human-intensive task," DSTL said. "A large number of cyber activities and their possible outcomes have the potential to produce vast amounts of data and information to analyze. Traditional human-computer interfaces are no longer the best method and can slow down analysis."

DSTL will begin accepting proposals from industry and academia on July 9. More than $1.57 million is being made available for successful proposals over two contest phases. Only bidders who are successful in phase 1 of the competition will be able to bid for second phase funding.
