The Royal Canadian Navy has contracted MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. for support and maintenance of submarine trainers.

The award, worth nearly $14.8 million, is specifically for in-service training and maintenance of the Victoria-class submarine training simulators. The contract length is four years with options for an additional two years.

"MDA is pleased to have been selected as the winning bidder for this contract," said Don Osborne, the vice president responsible for this business. "We look forward to continuing our work with the Royal Canadian Navy."

MDA, is a Canada-headquartered information and communications company. It has provided in-service training and maintenance support on the Royal Canadian Navy's Victoria-class submarine trainers since 2009.

In announcing the contract signed on Tuesday, no additional information on the training simulators, located in the province of Nova Scotia, was provided.
