In a historic first for the city, lunar samples collected by China's Chang'e 5 robotic mission are now on public display in Macao. This event, marking the debut of these extraterrestrial materials in Macao, is part of the broader Science and Technology Serial Activities aimed at enhancing public understanding of China's space, marine, and polar explorations.

The samples, which are under tight security, have been placed in a specially designed glass case at the Macao Science Center, where they will be accessible to the public until next Saturday. The showcasing of these lunar materials is a highlight of the 12-day event series, reflecting China's significant achievements in space exploration.

The Science and Technology Serial Activities in Macao, which began on Tuesday, have been collaboratively organized by the Macao Special Administrative Region government, the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR, and the China National Space Administration (CNSA). The event lineup includes the Second Macao Space Development Forum, a themed exhibition at the Macao Science Center, and various space industry seminars and lectures across local schools.

Huang Yong, assistant director of the CNSA's publicity center, expressed his belief that the Chang'e 5 samples will offer the people of Macao, especially the youth, a rare opportunity to observe lunar dust up close. He anticipates that this experience will leave an indelible mark on their lives, inspiring them to delve deeper into the universe and China's space endeavors, and to nurture their own scientific aspirations.

Li Guoping, CNSA's chief engineer, emphasized at the opening ceremony the mainland's commitment to sharing its space, marine, and polar exploration achievements with the residents of Macao. This gesture of sharing knowledge and achievements underlines the collaborative spirit between the mainland and Macao in the realm of science and technology.

Tai Kin Ip, director of the Economic and Technological Development Bureau of the Macao SAR, expressed confidence in the continued collaboration between Macao and the mainland. He foresees further advancements in science and technology, increased training opportunities for researchers, and more international cooperative projects, supported by both the Macao government and the space administration.
