Chile eyes free trade deals at APEC
by Staff Writers
Santiago (AFP) Sept 5, 2012

Chile wants to strike new free trade deals with Hong Kong, Indonesia and Russia at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Vladivostok, its president said Wednesday.

"Those are yet to be done, and we are making good progress on reaching free trade deals with Hong Kong, Indonesia and Russia," President Sebastian Pinera said in an interview with Radio Cooperativa before heading to the summit in the eastern Russian city.

"Chile already has free trade with the world's largest economies but we still have farther to go," he stressed.

Pinera was expected to hold a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Then he is scheduled to make an official visit to Australia.

The annual APEC summit aims to tear down trade barriers and promote integration across 21 economies on the Pacific Rim, from China to Chile.
