Beijing, China (SPX) Jun 06, 2023
The world's first 5-meter-resolution Broadband Multi-spectral Satellite Dataset (JLS-5M) was officially opened to global users for sharing during the 6th Asia-Oceania Group on Earth Observations (AOGEO) Workshop, which held in the University of Macau from May 29 to 31, 2023. The data is available through the National Earth Observation Data Center.

The dataset, jointly developed by Changguang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. (CGSTL) and the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), contains 20 spectral bands, among which the spatial resolution of the images of the main terrestrial feature spectral bands reaches 5 meters.

The dataset uses the L1 data collected by China's commercial multispectral satellite series Jilin-1 GP01&GP02, covering 65 "Belt and Road"countries during the period of 2020-2022.

In order to support quantitative applications, the production of the dataset adopts atmospheric correction algorithm excluding adjacent pixel effect, on-orbit absolute radiometric calibration techniques such as site calibration and cross calibration, and index product verification. Finally, the total volume of the dataset reaches 80TB.

The JLS-5M dataset has the outstanding features that having medium-high spatial resolution and multiple spectral channels at the same time, and it will be helpful to earth observation scientists for improving the precision of land use, resource management, and environmental monitoring, among other fields.
