Marlboro MA (SPX) Nov 04, 2010 Evergreen Solar has announced the company has provided solar panels for nine solar power plants in the Czech Republic, further strengthening its presence in Eastern Europe. In total, the company has provided 12 MW of solar panels for the solar power plants across the country. The projects are designed and installed by Czech-based solar specialist NWT, one of the largest IT companies in the Czech Republic specializing in electrical technologies and solar power. "Evergreen Solar is thrilled to be able to showcase its String Ribbon solar panels in the Czech Republic," said Peter Rusch, Vice President Sales for Europe, Africa and the Middle East. "Our panels are powering some very significant solar power plants in the region and we are looking forward to continue our successful expansion in the Czech Republic." The newest and largest installation is a solar plant near the town of Rostin, which will have an installed output of 3.5 MW. Construction started in August 2010 and will be completed by November 2010. For the installation, Evergreen Solar provided 13,800 ES-A and nearly 3,000 ES-E String-Ribbon solar panels. The solar installation in Rostin will provide enough electricity to power more than 1,000 homes in the area and will reduce carbon dioxide emission by more than 2,300 metric tons of annually. The new solar plant in Rostin is the latest in a series of major installations by Evergreen Solar in partnership with NWT in the Czech Republic: + In December 2009 a 1 MW plant was completed in Domazelice, near Prerov. + In June 2010 a 2.2 MW plant in Moutnice near Brno was installed. + Currently construction is being finalized on a 3 MW solar plant in Nasavrky, for which Evergreen provided nearly 15,000 ES-A panels. + Another five projects have been commissioned with Evergreen Solar String Ribbon panels with a total output of 3.7 MW. Evergreen solar panels are known for their high-performance in delivering more kilowatt hours per kilowatts installed as well as their smallest carbon footprint and quickest energy payback of any silicon-based panel on the market. "We chose Evergreen panels, because they start to produce clean energy sooner and produce it longer," explains David Vitek, General Director of NWT. "The biggest advantage of Evergreen Solar panels is that they not only produce clean energy, but the method of their production is also environmentally friendly." The strong commitment in the Czech Republic is a significant step for Evergreen Solar and fits perfectly with the company's strategy to expand its presence in Europe, which is the biggest solar market worldwide. Due to the excellent local infrastructure and the sunny cool climate, the country provides ideal conditions for the installation of solar plants.
