Framatome and Vattenfall ink nuclear fuel contract for long term security of supply
by Staff Writers
Paris, France (SPX) May 24, 2022

.

Framatome recently inked a new agreement with Vattenfall Nuclear Fuel AB for long-term nuclear fuel supply. Under this contract, awarded on May 3, Framatome will continue to secure fuel deliveries of ATRIUM 11 through 2034, to Forsmark 3 nuclear reactor, operated by Vattenfall in Sweden.

"Framatome is an ideal partner to supply nuclear fuel for Forsmark 3," says Ove Nilsson, head of Vattenfall Nuclear Fuel. "After working with the company on previous fuel supply contracts, we are eager to extend our valuable relationship with Framatome, which will enable Vattenfall to move forward in developing a strategic supply chain within the industry."

"We are very pleased to be granted this contract and honored to be confirmed as a trusted supplier to Vattenfall," said Lionel Gaiffe, senior executive vice president, Fuel Business Unit at Framatome. "This agreement builds on our valued partnership with Vattenfall, secures a sustainable ATRIUM 11 fuel supply for Forsmark 3, and further strengthens our position in the Nordic market."

Framatome's ATRIUM 11, boiling water reactor fuel design, brings an ever safer, proven and economic fuel solution to fully support Vattenfall's strategic goal for enabling fossil-free living within one generation.

Forsmark's three boiling water reactors generate 20-25 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, powering approximately one-sixth of Sweden's total energy consumption. Forsmark 3 has been generating approximately 1,172 Mwe electricity to Stockholm and neighboring municipalities for almost 40 years.

Framatome to perform reactor vessel mitigation technique at 4 US nuclear plants
Paris, France (SPX) May 24, 2022
Framatome was recently awarded a contract to perform a specialized reactor vessel mitigation technique on four nuclear plants in the United States. The process, called cavitation peening, extends the life of the reactor vessel by protecting against corrosion. Cavitation peening is a surface mitigation solution capable of preventing corrosion crack initiation without harming any components. Framatome's innovative process operates at a higher pressure and includes parameters that achieve a greater d ... read more
