GenDyn wins $52M Navy contract for IT support

GenDyn Electric Boat wins acoustic detection contract
Washington (UPI) Aug 25, 2017 - The U.S. Navy is contracting General Dynamics - Electric Boat Corp. to produce and install large vertical array acoustic detection capability to submarines, the Department of Defense announced on Thursday.

The cost-plus-incentive-fee and firm-fixed-price contract award is worth $64,217,408. The contracting authority is Naval Sea Systems Command, in Washington, D.C.

The DOD said the new LVA technology to be developed will be installed on the submarines' exterior. The Impact on the vessels' architecture, hydrodynamics, and submarine signatures would be minimal.

If all contract options are exercised, the award value would increase to $882,142,220. Fiscal 2017 research, development, test and evaluation funding from the Navy in the amount of $13,129,253 will be obligated at time of the award and will not expire at the end of the 2017.

General Dynamics Information Technology is to provide cyber-security and IT support to the U.S. Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command.

The work comes under an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract with a five-year value of about $52 million, the company announced on Thursday.

"General Dynamics has a highly experienced team who understands IT architecture, engineering and meteorology, oceanographic and geospatial data," Marcus Collier, senior vice president of General Dynamics Information Technology's Health and Civilian Solutions division, said in a press release. "We will continue our longstanding partnership with the U.S. Navy to provide predictive and current data, information and services that enables them to operate safely and effectively across the complete range of military operations."

The command, with Navy Information Forces, provides Physical Battlespace Awareness data and services to the U.S. Navy and joint forces.

General Dynamics has provided full-spectrum information technology and support services for the U.S. Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command for more than 25 years.
