Hughes Network Systems has announced its HX System for land mobile, maritime and airborne communications-on-the-move (COTM) is undergoing Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) certification by the U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) SATCOM Systems Expert (SSE).

WGS is a satellite communications system that provides flexible, high-capacity bandwidth on X-band and Ka-band for U.S. and Australian troops, ensuring command and control communications for tactical operations. WGS provides warfighters unprecedented access to video streaming, teleconferencing and high-resolution imagery in real-time.

"Hughes is pleased to be going through the WGS certification process," said Rick Lober, vice president and general manager of Hughes Defense and Intelligence Systems Division.

"Our HX System is ideally suited for the WGS network and provides continuous communications on-the-move capabilities. We look forward to completing our certification process for the HX System and supporting the U.S. and Australian militaries via the WGS network."

The HX System employs a compact, high-performance router that can be configured in star or mesh modes and has Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 cryptographic security.

The HX System also has Enhanced Signaling Security, which protects data, management and signaling traffic over the satellite network. The system is extremely bandwidth-efficient, combining video, voice, data and Internet access while maintaining high-speed connectivity.
