Jakarta (AFP) Nov 10, 2010
Indonesia's Mount Merapi volcano has killed 191 people since it began erupting late last month, with more than 340,000 people in makeshift camps, an official said Wednesday.

"The death toll from Merapi has reached 191. More than 340,000 people have fled their homes," a disaster management official told AFP.

The official, who refused to give his name, said the sharp increase in the death toll from 151 was likely due to rescuers recovering more bodies in the central Java area where the volcano is located.
