Lockheed delivers Super Galaxy to U.S. Air Force Reserve Command

Lockheed Martin delivered its C-5M Super Galaxy aircraft to the U.S. Air Force Reserve Command Monday, the company announced.

The aircraft was handed over Monday and will be assigned to the 433rd Airlift Wing at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Tex., the company said in a statement.

The aircraft was formerly assigned to Westover Air Reserve Base, Mass., and was flown to New York's Stewart Air National Guard Base for interior paint restoration and to receive its Texas state flag tail flash.

The aircraft was originally delivered to the Air Force in 1998 as a C5-B.

The C-5 is the service's largest strategic airlifter, and can carry a payload of up to six Mine Resistant Ambush-Protected vehicles or up to five helicopters.
