The U.S. Navy's Shipbuilding and Advanced Manufacturing of Center of Excellence will continue to be run by SCRA Applied R&D. The five-year indefinite-quantity contract carries a maximum value of $99 million and is a re-compete win for South Carolina Research Authority Applied Research & Development, which has operated the center in Charleston, S.C., for the past 11 years. "SCRA Applied R&D is proud to continue its support to the Navy's manufacturing technology program through the Navy Shipbuilding and Advanced Manufacturing Center of Excellence," said SCRA Vice President Kevin Carpentier, who will serve as director of the center. "We will support the Navy and its warfighters by teaming with the industry's best technology providers to reduce acquisition and life-cycle costs, improve capabilities and deliver exceptional value to the Navy." The center develops and manages projects that support the Navy ManTech program and also conducts special projects as directed by the service. Unlike the past, the projects will not be limited to shipbuilding. SCRA was created by the General Assembly of South Carolina. It promotes high-tech development through collaboration with industry and universities and also manages federal research projects.
