Post Weld Heat Treatment Agreement Signed for Hinkley Point C Secondary Coolant Welds

Framatome entered into an agreement with NNB to conduct post weld heat treatments on welds for the main secondary coolant systems in two EPR reactors under construction at Hinkley Point C in the UK. This scope of work further reinforces the collaboration between Framatome and NNB for the Hinkley Point C project.

Post weld heat treatment forms a critical component of on-site assembly activities by enhancing the safety and quality of the welds. Operations for these treatments will involve Framatome subsidiary CETh, dedicated to pre/post weld heat processes, alongside Framatome Limited to manage the British on-site teams. Each coolant system comprises approximately 160 welds and requires over 40 personnel onsite across a 36-month period.

"We are proud of NNB's continued trust. This agreement expands our scope of activity and strengthens our role in building the two EPR units at Hinkley Point," said Guirec Maugat, Senior Executive Vice President of Framatome's Installed Base Business Unit. "We will draw on our expertise in post weld heat treatment and our experience in building new nuclear reactors to deliver the highest standards of quality for the secondary coolant systems of both units of Hinkley Point C. The experience and expertise of the teams involved will also help keep the project on schedule."

"Local Post Weld Heat Treatment (LPWHT) is a critical scope for the HPC project in support of the NSSS secondary circuits and will take the learning from previous EPR projects. Collaboration with Framatome and its supply chain has been strong from the start to ensure readiness for a focused effort on quality delivery to meet the HPC schedule. HPC is confident of successful delivery of the LPWHT scope as an addition to Framatome's already extensive scope on the project for the Primary Circuit," underline Laurent Reber, HPC Project Director, and Martyn Brocklesby, HPC Procurement Director.

Hinkley Point is located on England's Somerset coast. After completion, the two EPR units at Hinkley Point C will supply 3,200 MWe of low-carbon power to more than six million UK households.
