Saab of Sweden is supplying its AT4 shoulder-launched rocket system to the French military under a contract from the country's defense and procurement agency.

The first fixed price contract for the Roquette Nouvelle Generation is worth about $31.7 million. Eight contract options are provided for under the award.

The contract also covers an integrated logistics and support package.

"This procurement is currently the single most important program on the global market in the disposable shoulder-launched product segment", said Gorgen Johansson, head of Saab's Dynamics business area. 'The French requirements are comprehensive and exacting, and we are proud that DGA has chosen Saab for this important contract."

The rocket system is built upon Saab's modular 84-mm product range, which includes the Carl-Gustaf multi-purpose weapon system and the AT4 family of disposable weapons.

Saab said three AT4 variants are included in the contract with DGA: the AT4CS ER, or anti-armor extended range; the AT4CS anti-structure and breaching rocket, and AT4CS HE, a high-explosive, anti-personnel weapon.

Saab has teamed with Nexter Munitions of France for the contract.
