The U.S. State Department has approved a possible foreign military sale that would send six Apache helicopters, with additional equipment, to India. The proposed $930 million deal for six AH-64E Apache helicopters would include 14 T700-GE-701D engines, four AN/APG-78 fire control radars, four radar electronic units Block III, four AN/APR-48B modernized radar frequency interferometers, 180 AGM-114L-3 Hellfire Longbow missiles, 90 AGM-114R-3 Hellfire II missiles, 200 Stinger Block I-92H missiles, seven modernized target acquisition designation sight/pilot night vision sensors and fourteen embedded GPS intertial navigation systems, the State Department said in a release Tuesday. The deal would also include rockets, training and dummy missiles, 30mm cannons and ammunition and other equipment and support. The State Department said the "proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to strengthen the U.S.-Indian strategic relationship and to improve the security of an important partner which continues to be an important force for political stability, peace, and economic progress in South Asia." It added that the deal would support India's defense infrastructure and improve the country's ability to prevent regional threats. The sale, which is still pending, would call upon work from contractors that include General Electric Company, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Sensors, Longbow, LLC, and Raytheon Company.
