South Korea donates over 200 military vehicles to Cambodia
by Ryan Maass
Washington (UPI) Mar 30, 2017

South Korea recently donated 222 military vehicles to the Cambodian armed forces as part of an effort to bolster the country's homeland security assets.

Cambodia formally received 208 trucks and 14 engineering vehicles during a ceremony held at the Techno Hun Sen Military Technical Institute in the southern province of Kampong Speu. The Cambodian Daily reports senior officials including Defense Minister Tea Banh were in attendance.

During the event, the Cambodian minister suggested the equipment would be used to crackdown on homegrown threats.

"If anyone wants to start to make chaos or any revolution, then this equipment will join all our units," he said.

The event marked South Korea's third major donation to Cambodia. The country received two previous aid packages from the east Asian nation in 2010 and 2012. South Korean leaders say the newest delivery strengthens the bilateral relationship, and that a fourth delivery is coming in July.

"I'm confident that the assistance will further enhance the friendly relations between our two countries and strengthen the [capabilities] of Cambodian military personnel," South Korean deputy defense minister Kang Byung-joo said.
