A SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket has successfully deployed the Merah Putih 2 satellite into orbit, marking a significant step forward in enhancing broadband Internet access across Indonesia. The event took place at 3:11 p.m. EST on Tuesday, underscoring SpaceX's ongoing contributions to global telecommunications connectivity.

This mission signifies the 17th flight for the Falcon 9 two-stage rocket, which has an impressive track record, including pivotal roles in Crew-3, Crew-4, eight Starlink missions, and two Cargo Dragon spacecraft missions to the International Space Station (ISS). Approximately eight minutes post-launch, the rocket's first-stage booster accomplished a precise landing on the SpaceX droneship named Just Read the Instructions, showcasing SpaceX's pioneering reusability technology.

Merah Putih 2, which separated from Falcon 9's second stage around 34 minutes after liftoff, is the second commercial satellite SpaceX has launched for the Indonesian satellite company Telkomsat. The satellite's journey to space began in Florida in late January, where it underwent a series of preparations and was integrated into Falcon 9's second stage, readying it for this critical mission.

The launch of Merah Putih 2 follows the successful deployment of its predecessor, the Merah Putih (formerly known as Telkom-4), aboard a Falcon 9 rocket in 2018. This continuity of missions underscores the growing partnership between SpaceX and Telkomsat, aiming to bolster Indonesia's telecommunications infrastructure.

Contracted by Telkomsat, Thales Alenia Space took charge of building the Merah Putih 2 satellite. The aerospace giant announced that the satellite is designed to deliver over 32 Gbps of Internet speed, promising a significant leap in connectivity for the Indonesian population. This enhancement is expected to address the growing demand for reliable and fast Internet services, further enabling Indonesians to participate in the global digital economy. Related Links

Second Private US Moon Probe launches on a Falcon 9 rocket
Space Coast FL (SPX) Feb 15, 2024
Since the December 1972 Apollo 17 mission, NASA has not launched a spacecraft to perform a soft landing on the Moon. The mission, dubbed IM-1, was originally scheduled to launch in the early morning hours on Wednesday (Feb. 14), but was scrubbed due to "off-nominal methane temperatures prior to stepping into methane load." A 14-foot-tall moon lander built by a Houston-based company, Intuitive Machines, launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Launch Complex 39-A ( ... read more
