Storms damage Phoenix airport

Los Angeles (AFP) Sept 28, 2014


Severe storms hit Phoenix's international airport on Saturday, briefly grounding flights, the airport announced on Twitter.

Phoenix Sky Harbor airport's sustained damage to its roof and some walls, US media reported, leading the airport to stop flight operations.

Less than an hour later, the airport said: "Flights have resumed at Sky Harbor but more than 30 inbound flights were diverted to other airports."

Local media reported that the airport terminal in the southwestern US city was lashed by near-hurricane force winds.

Woman dies in flood as storms lash southern France
Paris (AFP) Sept 17, 2014
A woman died after falling into a swollen river in France on Wednesday, the interior minister said, as heavy storms battered the south. The victim's body was found on the banks of the Dourdou river in Arnac commune in the region of Aveyron.
