TeenDriver has launched a new service that gives parents the tools they need to raise safe drivers. TeenDriver.com enables parents of teenagers to receive online confidential reports related to their teen's driving habits and provides additional information such as safe driving tips and guidelines for both parents and teens.

Membership includes a license plate frame, car magnet, and decals with a phone number and website that community members can use to report driving behavior.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens in the U.S. In 2009, over 3,000 teens in the United States aged 15-19 were killed and more than 350,000 were treated in emergency departments for injuries suffered in motor-vehicle crashes according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The distractions of cell phones, GPS devices, increased traffic congestion and overall urban sprawl coupled with general inexperience are all contributing factors that have made teen driving accidents a national problem.

In fact, the Pew Research Center's Internet and American Life Project found that one in three (34 percent) texting teens ages 16-17 say they have texted while driving and that boys and girls are equally likely to report texting behind the wheel.

"In my neighborhood we've had teen drivers who consistently drove too fast. One was a neighbor's boyfriend and so talking to the parents was easy. Another was not easy. Asking him to slow down didn't help, but getting a message to the parents made a difference," said Juan Aguilar, co-founder of TeenDriver.

"Our service aims to improve teen driver safety through community feedback and provides a middle ground for people to report driving behavior."

Parents can subscribe to TeenDriver.com for a starter rate of $19.99 for a six month test drive, $29.99 for one year, and $49.99 for two years for up to three cars per account. They'll receive a car kit including a license plate frame, car magnet, and decals and can log-on to receive confidential reports about their teen's driving as well as tips and information on raising safer teen drivers.

"Nobody is born a safe driver, but once parents trust their teens with a car, we provide a tool to help create safer teens and safer communities. Understanding how new drivers are doing lets parents continue the conversation about safe driving so that driver education doesn't have to end once a teen gets his or her license," added Aguilar.

TeenDriver also provides safe driving guides for both teens and parents that address issues related to traffic safety and include tips for new drivers.

Exacter has enhanced their EXACTER Outage-Avoidance System technology to identify and locate an impending insulator flashover on overhead lines. "Before a flashover causes a circuit outage, an insulator will begin to emit specific RF signatures, either from cracks, tracking, leakage, or from a process known as scintillation. In this process, small areas of the insulator surface begin to arc. The ... read more
