Top Chinese gaming companies continue to challenge

From France to the United States of America, some of the biggest companies in the gaming category of entertainment are based in the West. However, gaming companies from China are experiencing notable growth, as China's gaming giants continue to carry out some notably ambitious plans.

While the games industry has always been highly competitive, Chinese organizations haven't been as large as they are today. In 2026, they're recording even bigger revenues than ever before and rivalling some of Europe and America's most prestigious gaming names as a result. For western gamers, they're now able to explore Chinese-made titles alongside playing undeniable favorites such as DraftKings casino online games like Live Spanish 21 and other must-play products like Split Fiction. Thanks to platforms like Steam and options like a VPN, though, Chinese-made games are another enticing opportunity for players to consider diving into.

With China's top gaming companies now challenging their Western rivals even further, the gaming landscape could look different in years to come. With some major names to keep tabs on in the coming years, below we highlight some of China's biggest players in the gaming space.

NetEase Games

While NetEase Games isn't the main player in China right now, it's a company with plenty of bright minds and exciting plans. This leading Chinese internet technology company's gaming division continues to excel and build on its $11.5 billion in revenues from 2024. Mobile gaming is NetEase Games' main money maker, especially as gaming on a smartphone device is now the most popular form of gaming in today's world. NetEase Games are clearly looking to capitalize on that, with titles like Eggy Party drawing in millions of players since its release in 2022.

Tencent

With its headquarters in Shenzhen and revenues of around $25.5 billion recorded in 2024 alone, Tencent is a Chinese gaming company that is making giant strides. The biggest gaming-related organization to come out of China right now, the company has ambitious plans for the future after being behind some hit gaming releases like Honor of Kings and Peacekeeper Elite. Tencent has also made a number of strategic investments in recent times after purchasing Riot Games and holding a 40% stake in Epic Games. These bold moves haven't gone unnoticed as Chinese gaming companies continue to branch out into the West.

miHoYo

Working out of Shanghai, miHoYo is another Chinese gaming company that continues to make waves. The company's most impactful release is Genshin Impact, with this truly stunning open-world action RPG title being played by millions of gamers on the planet. Genshin Impact alone has helped miHoYo amass revenues of $4 billion since it came to the fore in 2020, although Honkai: Star Rail is another one of the company's most successful products.

37Games

If mobile games are your main bag, then sampling some of 37Games' various releases is a must. As mentioned, though, not every Chinese-made game is accessible in the West, although a VPN could help here. 37Games has developed some exceptional releases that are drawing in millions of Chinese players, with titles like Chibi Warriors, Blades and Rings, Guardians of Cloudia, and Soul Land standing out. While most of the above titles are only accessible in Asia, an increasing number of Western players are keen to sample these alluring gaming products, given the hype surrounding them. Another Chinese company with progressive aims, this top-ranked mobile gaming operator is worth keeping tabs on.

Other big names

China's impact in the gaming sphere doesn't start and end with the aforementioned companies either. Some other large Chinese gaming companies to follow include Perfect World, ByteDance, and NetDragon Websoft.

AI prosthetic arm speed shapes sense of body ownership in VR
Tokyo, Japan (SPX) Feb 23, 2026
When prosthetic limbs move on their own, they promise powerful assistance but can also feel alien to the person using them. Researchers at Toyohashi University of Technology have now shown that the speed of an autonomous prosthetic arm critically shapes how strongly it is experienced as part of the body, as well as how usable and socially acceptable it seems when tested in virtual reality. The team used a virtual reality setup in which participants embodied an avatar whose left forearm was replace ... read more
