A new computer algorithm developed by researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory allows scientists to view nuclear fission in much finer detail than ever before. South Korea's president offered Monday to help energy-hungry India build more nuclear plants as the two Asian powerhouses set a goal of doubling bilateral trade by 2014. Greenpeace activists said Monday they were blocking a train transporting nuclear waste to the French port of Cherbourg from where it was to be shipped to Russia. Reports have surfaced that French utility EDF will not sell its British power grid. The head of EDF, Henri Proglio, "has always been opposed to this project that was initiated by (former EDF CEO) Pierre Gadonneix," reports Wansquare.com, citing British banking sources. Leak at German nuclear plant, man hospitalised: firm
Berlin (AFP) Jan 22, 2010
A leak in a uranium enrichment plant in Germany exposed an employee to a high level of radiation but posed no danger to people outside the facility, the firm operating the plant said on Friday. The employee was taken to hospital as a precaution, a spokeswoman for the German subsidiary of British nuclear firm Urenco said. None of the radiation escaped, the company added.
